Heading Home Healthy
If you have friends and family overseas, you know there is nothing better than visiting them.
Eating meals with your family, enjoying time with your friends, and seeing familiar faces.
But before you leave on your next trip there make sure you remember to visit your healthcare provider. While abroad, your body is more susceptible to illness due to the stress of travelling as well as being unaccustomed to the different foods you may encounter.
By visiting your healthcare provider before your trip, you’ll be able to arm yourself with the knowledge to stay healthy. Remember to ask questions like ‘What should I avoid?’ and ‘What medications or shots do I need?’
Check the Centre for Disease Control website (https://www.cdc.gov/) to see what diseases are prevalent in the country you are visiting and what you can do about it.
Call and check with your GP to see what vaccinations they offer as the vaccinations offered will vary. For example, finding a clinic offering yellow fever vaccinations can be difficult.
